- Ahmedabad: “By 2020 India will be the 3rd biggest economy in the world, however there will be lots of challenges for engineers and managers. Biggest problem of industrialization is government. Although government has simplified major procedures, red tapism especially inspectors’ facilitation money is major hurdle. If the system will be full-proof transparent, nobody will stop India taking giant leap towards becoming economic superpower.” This was stated by Mr. Suresh Patel, who is a past Technical Director and Operational Excellence Executive. He holds a B.E. Elect. from M.S. University Baroda, Master’s in Production Technology from South Bank University, London and a MBA from the University of Texas at Brownsville, USA. He is a Certified Reliability Engineer, Certified Quality Engineer and a Certified Management Systems Auditor certified by the American Society for Quality. He was speaking at the 4 book release ceremony at Ahmedabad. Mr. Anil Patel, Plant Manager Ford Engine Plant at Sanand was the Chief Guest in the event.
- Mr. Patel's experience includes more than four decades during which he has developed wide range of products/processes and has helped establishing six manufacturing plants in India, and five US plants in Mexico. Starting with India, his career path has enabled him to work in industries in UK, Europe, USA and Mexico. Mr. Patel’s practical expertise and interests include establishment of Business Excellence Strategies starting from product quality strategies, quality improvement tools deployment and execution, leading to improvements in product/process delivery performance and reduction in product escapes and product/process variation through Lean Six Sigma and overall business excellence employing Leadership and Results “Triades” as defined in MBNQA USA.
- Books titled: Global Quality Management System, Lean Transformation, Six Sigma Implementation and Business Excellence were released in the presence of CXOs and CMDs of various corporate and experts from academic institutes. Mr. Patel said that every system starts with the requirement of customer and satisfaction of the customer depends upon quality. Quality means continuous improvement. Goals in production should be 4000 parts per million means very high level of quality. Through various tools of Lean Six Sigma, anyone can get Global Quality Management. There are various factors affecting Business Excellence: (1) Leadership matters. Vision, mission, yearly goals, cash flow and organisational capability are important, (2) Customer focus, (3) HR is major factor achieving performance excellence, (4) For quality system goals of process has to be checked at every six months, (5) Performance Analysis and improvement checking trends, (6) Review in strategic planning, (7) Business Excellence.
- Mr. Anil Patel, Plant Manager Ford Engine also expressed his views. He said customers expectations are exceeding. You have to change with the changing time. Otherwise we have seen the situation of corporate giants like Fiat, Ambassador and Kodak. In our Ford company leaders are teachers. They teach their team how to perform better. Every car has 2500 parts, so car manufacturer companies have to be more careful. Mr. R.K. Jain and Mr. Prashant Gandhi also spoke on the ceremony about the importance of Six Sigma Quality Management in present context.
