Chinese President visits Sabarmati Ashram

Ahmedabad: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, today visited the Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhiji in Ahmedabad. President Jinping was dressed in an off-white Khadi jacket, which had been presented to him earlier today by the Prime Minister. The two leaders spent a few minutes at Hriday Kunj in the Ashram, where President Jinping operated the charkha (spinning wheel). The Chinese President and the First Lady later visited the Sabarmati Riverfront at Ahmedabad, accompanied by the Prime Minister. They witnessed glimpses of Gujarati culture. The two leaders sat on a jhoola (swing) for a few moments. The President and the First Lady also sat on a traditional cot, before joining the Prime Minister for a private dinner on the riverfront.
