GTU to collaborate with Polish Universities to develop new courses for Gujarati youth

Gandhinagar: With Government of Gujarat ready to kick off India’s largest summit from 10 January, 2017, Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat met various business leaders that have shown keen interest in investing in the state as well as Heads of State & Government that are keen on exploring collaboration opportunities with Gujarat and India at large.

Among those who met Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat today were Mr. Piotr Glinski, Hon. Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland; Mr. Wladyslaw Ortyl, Hon. Chief Minister (Marshal) of Podkarpackie Region, Poland; Mr. Adam Struzik, Hon. Chief Minister (Marshal) of Mazowieckie Region, Poland along with Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to India, Deputy Ministers and Secretaries from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Ms. Anna Ekstrom, Hon. Minister for Upper Secondary School and Adult Education, Sweden; Mr. Rene Van Hell, Special Envoy for International Business, Ministry of external Affairs, The Netherlands; Mr. Milan Hovorka, Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of India and Dr. Edmund Chia, Acting High Commissioner of Singapore to India also met Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat. Shri K. Kailashnathan, Chief Principal Secretary to Hon. Chief Minister, Kum. S. Aparna, Principal Secretary to Hon. Chief Minister and Dr. J.N Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat were also present during these meetings. Companies like SAAB Group, Tsinghshan Group, Maxxis Group, Taishan Fiberglass Inc, Bakoma and GHCL Limited also met Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday to discuss investment opportunities in the state.

Speaking on the investment and partnership opportunities that Gujarat has to offer, Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat said “We are pleased to see such high-level of enthusiasm among companies from various sectors to invest in Gujarat as well as among the Heads of State and Heads of Government to explore strategic partnership with the state. Factors like strong port connectivity, surplus power, ease of doing business and a policy driven governance makes Gujarat an ideal investment destination globally. It is our privilege to host so many global and national leaders attending the 8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and we are certain that the Summit will help Gujarat connect India to the world.”

Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat discussed collaboration opportunities in areas like Energy, Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Automotive & Engineering, Electronics, Green Technology, Agro and Food processing with the strong delegation from Poland, which is a partner country for VGGS 2017. The possibility of cooperation in heritage management of towns in Gujarat was also discussed as one of the agenda points to be taken forward on priority. It was also noted that the Gujarat Technology University would be collaborating with Polish Universities to develop new courses for Gujarati youth.

The Netherlands, which is a partner country for Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 has proposed a strategic-partnership MoU between Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Government of Gujarat with an aim to adoption of 4R concept – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover of Resources, Technology Transfer, Capacity Building of the Stakeholders and Sharing of Best Environment Management Practices in the state of Gujarat. This MoU was signed and exchanged between Ambassador of The Netherlands, Mr. Alphonsus Stoelinga and the Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment, Government of Gujarat, Mr. Arvind Agarwal in the presence of Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat. Netherlands being one of the world leaders in Maritime & port sector, collaboration opportunity in developing Maritime Heritage Museum at Lothal, maritime studies and a technical collaboration with Gujarat Maritime Board was also discussed. The meeting was also attended by Shri Ajay Bhadoo, VC & MD, GMB.

Further, Mr. Tsai Jen Lo, Chairman, Maxxis Group discussed their plan of setting up their first plant in India. The plant will initially manufacture motorcycle tyres and tubes for companies including Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. The company plans to produce around 20,000 units per day. Occupying 106 acres, the facility will be located in Sanand Industrial Estate near Ahmedabad and will eventually employ close to 2,000 people. The company intends to invest Rs 2500 crore in the project.  The Maxxis Group have also shown interest in setting up skill development centers and their upgradation to impart skill training in various arenas. Taishan Fiberglass Inc, the 2nd largest fiberglass producer in China and the 3rd largest in the world shared its intentions to set up state-of-the-art manufacturing plant of fiberglass in Gujarat, which will be their first overseas plant with an estimated investment of about Rs 1700 Crores (USD 250 Million). This plant will have production capacity of 80,000 Mt/year in the first phase. Mr. Zhiyao Tang, Taishan Group, informed the Hon. Chief Minister that they would be signing a MoU for the same during Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017.

Hon. Chief Minister, Shri Vijay Rupani also held discussions with Tsinghshan Group, world’s biggest stainless steel producer which has entered into a joint venture with Sunrise Group for setting up a stainless steel (Cold & Hot Rolling) project in Mundra. The project would have a total investment of 800 million USD and is expected to create 8000 jobs. Tsinghshan Group is also expected to sign a MoU during the 8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

Gujarat being the only state in the country with a Defense & Aerospace policy, SAAB Group in their meeting with Hon. Chief Minister discussed various opportunities in the sector. Hon. Chief Minister also suggested that SAAB Group may also look at partnering with Universities of Gujarat for providing training in Aeronautical engineering studies. Similarly, GHCL Limited also shared details of their plans to set up a soda ash plant in Gujarat with the objective of reducing reliability on imported soda ash.

Sweden being a partner country of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 has brought a strong delegation to Gujarat. In a meeting with Ms. Anna Ekstrom, Hon. Minister for Upper Secondary School and Adult Education and Training, Government of Sweden, Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat highlighted some of the sectors where a strategic partnership with Gujarat can be explored. Some of the sectors that can be explored with Sweden include skill development, innovation, R&D, Aerospace and defense. Hon. Minister, Ms. Anna Ekstrom expressed happiness for visiting Gujarat and being a part of India’s largest summit.
