Gujarat witnesses its first Bariatric Robotic Surgery

Ahmedabad: Gujarat has witnessed its first Bariatric Robotic Surgery at Sterling Robotic Surgery Institute, Sterling Hospital, Ahmedabad. The renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Apurva Vyas has successfully performed the said surgery on a 52 years old female patient. Elaborating more about the case, Dr. Apurva Vyas, Bariatric Surgeon, Sterling Hospital said, “Initially when the patient approached us, she weighed 126 kgs with a BMI index 55.7, which is quite on a higher side. Moreover, she was suffering from severe joint pain, breathlessness and hypertension. She used to exhaust while walking and couldn’t perform day-to-day activities with ease. Even, her consultant advised her to undergo bilateral joint replacement surgery. At Sterling Hospital, she was admitted on 7th Sept.’16 and the bariatric robotic surgery was performed on 8th Sept.’16. She is now stable and expected to lose 60 kgs within a year.
