King Kohli Rules Down Under
King Kohli true to expectations continued his sublime touch and batted with grace and ease, taking India to a great 3/0 series whitewash. The icing was India climbing to No 1 in the ICC’s T20 chart, a massive boost ahead of the World Cup at home.
Yuvraj also solved the last bit of the puzzle in the India batting line-up as they look to find the best combination for the big show. Even though he got just 15 off 12 balls, the situation in which he got them, he should form the lower-middle order with Raina and MS Dhoni.
The Australians would agree that it makes the India line- even more intimidating.
Like in the earlier games, it was Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who set up the win, with solid support from Shikhar Dhawan. When stand-in captain Shane Watson powered Australia to 197 with an unbeaten 124, he must have fancied his chances. But the India juggernaut rolled on.
Kohli hit his third successive half-century, Rohit his second in second, and Dhawan provided the momentum with a 9-ball 26.
Both Kohli and Rohit got out to soft dismissals, leaving the onus on Raina and Yuvraj.
With 17 needed of the last over, Watson tossed the ball over to Tye. Until this over, Yuvraj was shaky struggling to put bat to ball but the first delivery was flicked to fine leg for a four. The second ball swung the momentum towards India as Yuvraj rocked on to his back foot and heaved the ball to depp midwicket for a six, single of the next ball bought the equation to 6 runs of 3 balls. Raina the crafty limited over specialist held his nerve as he gathered 4 runs of the next 2 balls. With 2 runs needed of the last ball, Raina slashed the ball to the piont boundary and the Indian bench led by King Kohli was out celebrating a great Win.
MSD later on credited his bowlers and their contributions to this series win. He was full of praise for Bumrah and experienced Nehra. Dhoni said “The batsmen have taken it up a notch, but it is the bowlers who have done their job better, which has made the difference.”
Dhoni also indicated that India will retain more or less the same squad for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 to be held at home.
King Kohli, said” despite the 1-4 series loss in the ODIs he was happy with the way India wrapped up their tour of Australia. He said “indeed, reads sweet. We decided before Sydney one-dayer that we want to finish the tour 4-all. Just because we played so well earlier but didn’t get on the board,” With this win India clinch top spot in the ICC rankings for Twenty20 and have gained great momentum going into the World Cup
