[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The MCCNSW held a very successful ANZAC commemoration function on Thursday evening 23rd April 2015, attended by over 200 people from many different community groups and veterans, at the Wests Leagues Club Ashfield. Present were the Korean Consul General HE Mr Lee, and the Indian Consul, NSW Parliamentarians including The Hon Sophie Cotsis MLC, Jo Haylen MP, Jodi McKay MP and Chris Minns MP; and distinguished community leaders from diverse communities, included amongst many others were Egyptian, Lebanese Macedonian, Chinese, Greek, Sub Continental, Koreans and Vietnamese. The Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism in NSW, The Hon Sophie Cotsis MLC, gave a beautiful speech for the occasion from the podium.
The Ode was recited by Mr. Tom Cheong, a 92 year old veteran of World War II who served as a pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force. Vietnam War veteran Lt. Col. Lee Dow (Rtd) who served in the Australian Army was also present.
Mr Amarinder Bajwa, the MC of events, made the Acknowledgement of Country and it was a special feeling to see a person of Indian heritage deliver the acknowledgement of the indigenous people of our Nation, the traditional owners of the land.
The entertainment for the night was a wonderful presentation of dance and music of cultural diversity and of high standard, the junior talent on display was roundly applauded by all guests. The entertainment also included our own MCCNSW Dance Group which is carrying the message of multiculturalism through cultural expression to the community.
There were people of Anglo/Celtic background also in attendance, a pleasing demonstration that the MCCNSW is a truly multicultural group that will embrace every cultural group in our nation.
The MCCNSW led by the Chairman, Dr Anthony Pun OAM should receive kudos for being determined to go ahead with this very important commemorative and cultural event without any public grants, unlike other multi-ethnic associations. The MCCNSW relied upon the enthusiastic support of the diverse community and generous corporate sponsors, Accord Pacific Holdings and Ms Maria Chan. We thank the organising committee Chair, Mr Dickson Mak and his team, particularly, William Seung, Ajmer Singh Gill, Ms Dinh Tran, Michael Lo and Maggie Wu.
