Australian LABOR Party to Deliver proper Road Signs for SRI VENKATESWARA TEMPLE

NSW Labor will deliver proper road signs for the Sri Venkateswara Hindu Temple in Helensburgh so community members and visitors to the Temple do not miss the turn and have to travel more than 12km before they are able to turn around.

Members of the community and visitors to the temple traveling down the Princes Motorway often miss the turnoff to the Temple because there is no sign on the Princes Motorway.

NSW Shadow Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Jodi McKay, and NSW Labor Candidate for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart met with the Executive of Sri Venkateswara Temple today to commit to delivering proper road signs for the Temple.

Ms McKay has written to NSW Liberal Ministers Marshall and Pavey calling on them to act in what would be a simple ministerial intervention to avoid needless inconvenience to community members and visitors. Neither Minister has taken action.

NSW Liberal Member for Heathcote Lee Evans has also refused to help deliver proper road signs for Sri Venkateswara Hindu Temple

Ms McKay said “Labor has listened to the community, which has been calling for proper signage on the Princes Motorway so community members and visitors don’t miss the turn and have to travel for 12kms before they’re able to turn around.

“Sri Venkateswara Temple has been a destination for Hindus from Australia, Hindus from all over the world, and from many non-Hindu visitors and tourists since 1985. It’s a special place for Hindus in Australia, and should be easily accessible.

“I have written to Ministers Marshall and Pavey and asked them to take action to make the Temple more easily accessible. The NSW Liberals have done nothing on this, but Labor will.”

Ms Stuart said, “Heritage listed Sri Venkateswara Hindu Temple is a very special place for Hindus across Australia and the world, for the Illawarra, and for all of NSW.

“The NSW Liberals have done nothing to help make access to the Temple easier for the community and for visitors.

“This is something practical that will go a long way for people coming out here to look for the Temple.”
